A Pilot Study of Homeopathic Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Children and Youth.
In the pilot study of 35 children and teens, 63% experienced significant improvement with no harmful side-effects when treated with homeopathy for their ADHD symptoms.
The study was conducted using individualized homeopathic treatments for children and youth affected by ADHD. The homeopaths involved determined the treatment they thought would be best suited to the child’s symptoms at the beginning and throughout the study.
In total, 39 different remedies were used by the homeopaths, the most frequent ones being: Phosphorus, Hyoscyamus niger, Tuberculinum, Tarentula hispanica, Lycopodium clavatum, Anacardium orientale, Lachesis muta, Stramonium, Veratrum album, Lac caninum, Nux vomica, Pulsatilla, and Belladonna.
After the study was completed, 63% of parents reported a significant improvement in their child’s ADHD symptoms. Some of these showed rapid improvements while others had slower progress as their treatment was adjusted throughout the course of the study.
Of the children who were already taking a stimulant medication, over 50% of them reported further improvement when the homeopathic treatment was added.
The standard approach to treating ADHD involves stimulant medications and behavioural interventions which generally helps about 70% of affected children and can lead to mild to serious side effects from the medication.
Studies have shown that homeopathy might be an effective and safe alternative or addition to treating children with ADHD.
